Beginning January 1, 2025, Brant County’s Blue Box Recycling program will be operated by Circular Materials, a not-for-profit organization overseeing Ontario’s extended producer responsibility (EPR) system. The shift is part of a province-wide effort to make producers more accountable for the life cycle of their packaging and paper products.

For residential properties, collection days and recycling practices will remain unchanged throughout 2025. Officials have emphasized that residents can continue using the Blue Box system as they always have, though future updates to the program may be announced as the transition unfolds.

Non-residential properties, including businesses and institutions, will no longer be included in the municipal Blue Box program. Instead, they must arrange for separate recycling services through private providers. Local transfer stations and online resources are available to assist businesses in managing the transition.

Emterra Environmental will handle customer service and operational inquiries related to Blue Box collections starting January 1. Residents with questions or concerns can contact Emterra at 1-888-597-1541 or by email at customercareont@emterra.ca.

County officials encourage residents to visit circularmaterials.ca/brant and brant.ca/BlueBoxTransition for more information about the program and to stay updated on any changes.

The move to Circular Materials reflects Ontario’s broader push toward a more sustainable and producer-driven recycling system. As Brant County embraces this change, officials remain committed to maintaining service continuity while working toward long-term environmental goals.
