Mayor Kevin Davis has confirmed he will unveil Brantford’s 2025 budget on or before January 3, well ahead of the February 1 deadline mandated by Ontario’s strong mayor legislation.

The provincial framework designates the mayor as the chief architect of the city’s financial plan, with councillors given an opportunity to propose amendments during the review process.

A special city council session scheduled for January 14 will serve as the platform for debate and potential modifications to Davis’s budget. Early figures indicate an operating budget of $212.3 million, with approximately $138 million earmarked for core municipal services such as transit.

The remaining $74 million is allocated to external organizations funded by the city, including the Brant County Health Unit and Brantford Police Service.

The proposed capital budget outlines an additional $161.8 million for infrastructure and development projects. Brantford Transit has emerged as a key focus, reflecting the city’s commitment to improving transportation options as it navigates rapid growth and evolving community needs.

With budget deliberations set to unfold early in the new year, Davis and council members will need to balance fiscal responsibility with investments in critical services and infrastructure to meet Brantford’s long-term goals.
