Nearly 150 drivers in the West Region have been charged with impaired driving since the Festive RIDE campaign began on November 21. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are working diligently to remove alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers from the roads through enhanced enforcement and public education efforts during the holiday season.

Roadside checkpoints and increased patrols have been key tools in identifying impaired drivers. The OPP encourages community members to assist in these efforts by reporting any suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1. Quick action from the public can help prevent accidents and save lives.

Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of collisions and fatalities on Ontario’s roads. Drivers charged with impaired offenses face serious consequences, including license suspensions, fines, and potential imprisonment. Repeat offenses or incidents involving harm can lead to even stricter penalties.

With holiday gatherings increasing the likelihood of alcohol or drug consumption, the OPP reminds everyone to plan ahead by using a designated driver, ride-sharing services, or alternative transportation to avoid the risks of impaired driving. The Festive RIDE campaign, which runs until early January, continues to serve as a critical reminder of the collective responsibility to keep roads safe during the holiday season.
