Residents of Brantford are advised to take note of the altered operational hours for city services during the upcoming festive season. The changes will be in effect from Tuesday, December 24, 2024 to Thursday, January 2, 2025. The announcement aims to ensure that citizens can plan accordingly and minimize any inconvenience that may arise due to the adjusted schedules.
City Hall and Related Services
Brantford City Hall, along with the Parking Enforcement Office and Customer Service, will be closing early on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at 1 p.m. and will remain closed on December 25 and 26 for Christmas and Boxing Day. These services will resume with regular hours on Friday, December 27 and Monday, December 30. Additionally, on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2024, the same facilities will close at 2 p.m. and will not reopen until Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. For any emergencies or urgent inquiries during the closure periods, residents can reach the City’s after-hours service provider by calling the standard Customer Service number at 519-759-4150.
Brantford Transit and Brantford Lift
Public transportation will also see modifications to its routine during the holiday season. On Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024, Brantford Transit and Brantford Lift will operate as usual until 6:30 p.m. However, on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, both services will be suspended for the entire day, allowing employees to spend time with their families and ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday for all.
For New Year’s Eve, Brantford Transit will run a regular service until 1 a.m. on January 1, 2025, with the added benefit of free hourly service from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. to assist residents in celebrating the arrival of the new year without the worry of transportation. Brantford Lift will mirror these hours, providing regular service until 1 a.m., also offering complimentary rides from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Curbside Collection and Landfill Operations
To accommodate the holiday schedule, curbside collection services, including garbage, recycling, and green bin pick-ups, will not operate on December 25, 2024, and January 1, 2025, in observation of Christmas and New Year’s Day. Consequently, the collection days for these services will shift by one day from Thursday, December 26 to Saturday, December 28, 2024, and from Thursday, January 2 to Saturday, January 4, 2025. This means that residents whose usual pick-up days are Wednesdays will have their waste collected on Thursdays, and so on for the affected weeks.
The City of Brantford encourages residents to review their collection calendars and plan accordingly. Additionally, the city landfill will adhere to the same schedule, remaining closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
