The County of Brant Council paid tribute to former Mayor Ron Eddy yesterday with the unveiling of the “Ron Eddy Way” sign at his family farm in Brant. Surrounded by family, friends, and community leaders, Ron Eddy was celebrated for his decades of dedication and service to the County.

“Thank you to Ron for his service to the County of Brant,” said Mayor David Bailey during the ceremony. “I know firsthand the commitment that serving the community requires, and I am in awe of the time and dedication Ron has given throughout his lifetime. I am certain this has also had an impact on his family, and I want to thank them for their support.”

The decision to name a portion of Governors Road East as “Ron Eddy Way” was brought to Council in October 2024, where it received unanimous support. The gesture serves as a lasting tribute to Eddy’s extraordinary contributions to the County’s development and prosperity.

Eddy’s leadership legacy spans decades. He served as Reeve of the Township of South Dumfries and Warden of the County of Brant for 16 years. He also represented the region as a Member of Provincial Parliament, advocating for its residents at Queen’s Park. Following the amalgamation of municipalities in 1998, Eddy became the first Mayor of the newly formed County of Brant, a role he held until his retirement in 2018.

Throughout his tenure, Eddy was instrumental in establishing the County as a single-tier municipality, uniting its communities while fostering economic growth and development. He championed agriculture as a cornerstone of the local economy and tirelessly represented the County in various local and provincial organizations.

“Ron Eddy Way” will serve as a lasting reminder of his vision for Brant as a “community of communities” and his unwavering dedication to its residents, both past and present.

The ceremony concluded with heartfelt words from Ron Eddy and his family, who expressed gratitude for the honor and the opportunity to celebrate his contributions with the community he holds dear.

The County of Brant, in celebrating Ron Eddy’s legacy, underscores its appreciation for his transformative leadership and the positive impact he has had on generations of residents.
