In a strategic operation targeting Brantford’s rising auto theft problem, police have apprehended two men and recovered two stolen vehicles.
The arrests follow an intensive investigation led by the Brantford Police Service (BPS) Auto Theft and Criminal Intelligence Units in response to a recent surge in vehicle thefts across the city. The investigation began on November 11, 2024, and by November 12, officers located a stolen Chevrolet Silverado on Sheridan Street. Surveillance footage showed two men entering the Silverado, which they used to steal a Chevrolet Envoy at Lynden Park Mall before abandoning the Silverado nearby.
Through further investigation, police identified two suspects. On November 13, officers from the BPS Uniform Patrol and Emergency Response Unit arrested both men at a Sheridan Street residence without incident, successfully recovering both stolen vehicles.
The suspects, both Brantford residents, now face multiple charges, including motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and driving under suspension.
Auto Theft Prevention Tips As vehicle theft rates increase, Brantford police encourage residents to take the following precautions:
• Lock doors and windows every time you leave your vehicle.
• Avoid leaving keys or valuables inside.
• Park in well-lit, high-traffic areas.
• Consider anti-theft devices like ignition kill switches, steering wheel locks, or tracking systems. If your vehicle is stolen, report the incident to police and your insurance provider promptly.
